Crane School District No. 13
Yuma, AZ
Enrollment: 6,150
# of Lunches Served Daily: 5,200
Annual Foodservice Budget: $2.5 million
Over the years, Jane Johnson has become an expert at tackling small district obstacles. Located three hours from anywhere, there was little choice of foodservice distributors, making prices high, selection low, and Jane's job very difficult. Jane’s hard work and creativity helped grow the Crane Elementary District of 6,150 students from an $800,000 operation to a $2.6 million program with a 10% annual profit. She joined the State Commodity Task Force to change large-district pack sizes that were going bad before she could serve them. With her leadership, Arizona changed its commodity business to give districts what they want how they want it. This eliminated the waste, increasing her commodity usage to 100% and decreasing food costs by 6%. Jane has attended over 60 state, national, industry and legislative action conferences and served in a multitude of state and national positions. During Jane's tenure as the SNA’s West Regional Director, her states won an unprecedented number of national awards.
